Annual Appeal Letter - 2007

Annual Appeal Letter

Dear Friend of the Homeless:

On behalf of the Board of Director’s at Joshua’s House, I would like to thank all of you for the many donation(s) you have made at some time over the past four years to assist the homeless people in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Homelessness is a growing problem throughout the nation as well as in Vermont.   As we watch the news or read a news article we find an increasing concern for those who are homelessness. It is estimated that Vermont has 4,000 homeless individuals and families each year and that on any given night 88 Vermont children are sleeping in a shelter. For more information on who is homeless in Vermont see other related information at:
Orleans County Housing Needs Assessment.

Our mission is to meet the needs of the homeless population in northern Vermont.  Our objectives are to shelter the homeless short-term and empower each individual to find support, love, caring and outreach from us-their community family.  We are a Christian organization that provides service to people from all walks of life.

This year requests included help with some vehicle repairs that allowed a young woman to keep her job and thus her housing. We have focused the majority of our time visiting shelters in other parts of Vermont and are working with an organization that could result in our attaining the goals we set in 2006 to have a physical structure as our first shelter.
There are four to five groups of homeless folks. Youth who are not living at home but are under age 18 and cannot be served by many agencies; single pregnant women; incarcerated women due for release; incarcerated men due for release; and elderly who have lost their homes often due to medical expense related issues.  Each group has its own set of needs for various types of shelter from very short term to long term transitional housing situations.  These groups are in addition to the families that may lose their homes to fires or flooding, or have inadequate heating systems, or loss of employment putting them at risk of becoming homeless.
We are enclosing a copy of a recent news article on Joshua House published in the Newport Daily Express this past spring.
Please be assured that your donations are reaching out as Christ has asked us to – feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, clothing the needy, providing heat for those in need along with small things – gas for their car to get to a medical appointment—or a small co-pay to help provide oxygen to someone.
It is with your help through your generous donations that we are able to help those in need of food, shelter, fuel, and any other daily necessity we sometimes take for granted.  Please help Joshua’s House continue to provide assistance to those in need.

Have you had a kindness shown?  Pass it on…
‘T was not given for thee alone, Pass it on…
Let it travel down the years,
Let it wipe another’s tears.
‘Til in heaven the deed appears.

Every dollar has great value to those in need and allows us to help prevent homelessness which is often caused when folks need to make a choice between their rent, food or fuel –a choice that can cause them to lose the place they call home. May God continue to bless you all for your support!
